On October 17, 2010, the Congregation of Holy Cross gathered in Rome to celebrate the canonization of Brother André Bessette, C.S.C. by Pope Benedict XVI. To commemorate the first anniversary of our Congregation’s first saint, we ask you to join us for the Year of the Brother.
An unassuming doorkeeper who became legendary for his ministry to the sick and the poor, Saint André didn’t set out to be a healer. Yet, this “Miracle Man of Montreal” embraced God’s mission of bringing hope to others, and every day tended to the needy who lined up at his door.
The Year of the Brother honors St. André as well as the Holy Cross Brothers who dedicate their lives to the Lord in service to all of God’s people. By their commitment, courage, and conviction, Brothers strive to exemplify this motto: Lives given to God, Love given to all.
Yet, there is still important work to be done! During the Year of the Brother we invite
others to discover their own calling to religious brotherhood in the Congregation of Holy Cross. May the blessings of this special year inspire all of us to make God known, loved, and served.
