Requirements
for Eligibility to be a Holy Cross Brother:
- Baptized Catholic
- Between the ages of 18 and 40
- At least a high school diploma or its equivalent
- Scholastic aptitude if required by ministry
- An ability to live interpersonally and generously with others
- Adaptability to change
- A sincere desire to devote one's life to the service of God and the Church
- Good moral character
- A commitment to live out the vows of poverty, celibacy and obedience
- Openness to developing an on-going relationship with God through prayer
Admission
Process
If
someone is interested in becoming a Holy Cross Brother, he must
first contact the vocation director in his region. After maintaining
ongoing contact with the vocation director on a regular basis,
the prospective candidate visits a local community and ministry.
After a period of mutual discernment, a person may request an
application for entrance into the candidate program. The admissions
process consists of the following:
- A written application which includes a written
autobiography
- 3-4 interviews
- Three references
- Medical
Evaluation, Psychological Tests and Behavioral Assessment
- Academic transcripts
- Copies of birth and sacramental certificates
Since the candidate program begins in mid-August, the entire admissions process must be completed by June 1.
Financial Policy
Candidates are responsible for the following expenses: transportation
to and from the candidate program site, travel expenses for Christmas
and summer vacations, medical insurance, personal expenses, books
and half payment of the university tuition. The Congregation of
Holy Cross will finance half of the university tuition and full
room and board. A prospective candidate who may require financial
assistance should consult with the vocation director. Once a candidate
becomes a novice, the Congregation of Holy Cross assumes his full
financial responsibility.
