The Brothers of Holy Cross
Saint Andre Bessette

Rejoice! Saint Andre Bessatte

It is with great joy that we announce that our brother, André Bessette, C.S.C., was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI on October 17, 2010. He is the first member of the Congregation of Holy Cross to reach sainthood.

An unassuming doorkeeper who became legendary for his ministry to the sick and poor, Saint Brother André didn’t set out to be a healer. Yet, this "Miracle Man of Montreal" embraced God’s mission to bring hope to others, and every day tended to the needy who lined up at his door.

In honor of Saint Brother André’s life, the Congregation of Holy Cross celebrated the Year of the Brother from October 17, 2011, through October 17, 2012. The Year of the Brother honored all Holy Cross brothers who have dedicated their lives to the Lord in service to all of God’s people. By their commitment, courage, and conviction, Holy Cross brothers strive to exemplify this motto: Lives Given to God, Love Given to All.
