John Sebastian Gutierrez and his mother

Sure. My name is John Sebastian Gutierrez and I recently turned 21 years old. I was raised in San Antonio, Texas, where I lived with my mother and my younger brother, Simon, before I moved into the Charles Andersen Residence and began to discern my vocation to the Congregation of Holy Cross. Many people call me “Sebastian,” and some know me as “SeaBass,” my nickname.

Thanks, Sebastian. What are you currently doing in terms of school and work?

I am preparing to graduate in May 2015 with a BA in Communication Arts with a specialty in Production from the University of the Incarnate Word. I also work in my field as an editor and videographer for Sprocket Productions.

How did you come to know the Congregation of Holy Cross?

I am a 2011 graduate of Holy Cross of San Antonio, a school that is run by the Congregation. It was there that I first came to know the brothers.

What are some of your interests outside of making and editing videos?

I am very involved in my parish and our local Knights of Columbus. With the Knights, I participated in the Tootsie Roll drive, as well as in a fish fry. I also enjoy photography. Most of all, I like to joke and have a good laugh from time to time.

What attracted you to religious life in Holy Cross?

What attracted me most was witnessing their desire to make God known, loved, and served through both the young and the old alike.

What gifts and talents might you offer to the mission of Holy Cross?

I think that I will bring my passion and my desire to serve God and the community.

What do you expect will happen as the result of living with the Holy Cross brothers and priests in San Antonio?

I know that I will definitely grow in my relationship with God. I love to meet new people and listen to their unique stories, so I know that my life will be full.
