On the Road

Bro. Jonathan Beebe, CSC, is the Vocation Director for the Moreau and Midwest Provinces of the Congregation of Holy Cross. As such, OntheRoad1he regularly visits the 17 schools that the brothers sponsor. That’s a lot of miles!

Bro. Jonathan began his journey in early August in Texas at Holy Cross of San Antonio, a co-ed school that serves the Mexican-American community on the west side. There, he gave the opening retreat to the faculty and staff as they prepared themselves for a new school year. The theme of retreat was “Vocations: Listening to Your Life.” Bro. Jonathan used his own vocation story to share about how others are often called to consecrated life as priests, sisters, and brothers.

Next, Bro. Jonathan moved himself and the Vocation Office from New York City to Austin, TX where the Congregation of Holy Cross founded and runs St. Edward’s University. The day he arrived, the thermometer in his car read 113F! Later in August, Bro. Jonathan and Bro. Mark Knightly, CSC, gave the opening retreat to the young men in Moreau House, a collegiate program that operates within the larger brothers’ community on campus. The participants spent two hours writing their community’s mission statement for the year, often debating in a friendly way over the nuances of certain words. This was impressive!

OntheRoad2As Fall approached, Bro. Jonathan began his regular classroom visits to the Freshmen and Junior classes in Holy Cross schools. He visited Holy Cross High School in Waterbury, CT, Bishop McNamara High School in Forestville, MD, and his alma mater, Notre Dame High School in West Haven, CT. In mid-January of the New Year, he gave the reflection at the Moreau Day liturgy at Moreau Catholic High School in Hayward, CA, the only school in the United States named for the Congregation of Holy Cross’ founder, Blessed Basil Moreau, CSC.

The highlight of these past few months, however, was the blessing and dedication of the new St. Joseph Discernment HouStJoseph_Pic2se at Holy Cross College in Notre Dame, IN. Bishop Kevin Rhoades of the Fort Wayne-South Bend diocese was the celebrant. He was assisted by Mr. Andrew Polaniecki, Director of Campus Ministry, and members of the campus ministry team. Five young men began the new aspirancy program, living with the brothers as they discern their call to consecrated life in Holy Cross. We were blessed indeed!
