Welcome to our Vocation E-News – Issue V

Dear Friends,

On one of the three occasions when Bro. Nicholas Thielman, CSC, met St. Teresa of Calcutta, she told him, “Brother, I can’t do what you do, and you can’t do what I do. But together, we can do something beautiful for God.”

All of us have been called in some way to serve God, whether it’s as a Brother of Holy Cross, a young man discerning a vocation or a lay person setting forth on a path to serve family and community. It’s how we answer His call that counts.

For Bro. Nicholas, answering God’s call brought him around the world to Bangladesh, where he worked for 46 years providing educational opportunities that lifted countless children out of poverty. Today, many of those children are successful adults here in the United States and abroad, paying it forward to provide a helping hand to others. In this issue, you will read the remarkable story of how God led Bro. Nicholas on an amazing life journey, including several encounters with Mother Teresa.

As Bro. Nicholas knows, it’s not easy to leave all that’s familiar and move to a new country. That’s what Bro. Paul Bednarczyk, CSC, recently did when he was elected at the General Chapter of the Congregation of Holy Cross in Rome to serve as our congregation’s Vicar General. We wish him well as he begins the next chapter of his life serving his confreres in Rome. We also thank Bro. Paul and Bro. Nich Perez, CSC, for the wonderful enthusiasm they brought to World Youth Day in Poland last summer.

Often, God has an important task for us closer to home. That is the case with Bro. Paul Kelly, CSC, and postulant Dustin Nelson—who together with Bro. Jony Gregory, CSC, of Bangladesh—recently moved into St. Joseph Discernment House at Holy Cross College to plant seeds for new vocations at Holy Cross College.

Like those mentioned here, God wants you to do something beautiful with your life. How will you answer His call?
