Welcome to our Vocation E-News – Issue VI

Director of Vocations, Brothers of Holy CrossDear Friends,

An important step in discerning a religious vocation is putting one’s self outside of what is familiar and comfortable and exploring new terrain. Postulant Dustin Nelson and Aspirant Jacob Eifrid did just that on a recent two-week trip to India where they spent time in Holy Cross schools and ministries through a program sponsored by the Center for Global Perspectives at Holy Cross College, Notre Dame, IN.

The immersion into a different culture and way of life that Dustin and Jacob experienced is an essential part of the life of a religious brother or priest in the Congregation of Holy Cross because our answer to God’s call compels us to cross borders of all kinds.

Some of the borders are physical and thousands of miles away — in Bangalore, India, or in the District of East Africa – where Vicar General Bro. Paul Bednarczyk, CSC, and I were privileged to bear witness to the ordination of nine Holy Cross men. Other borders are virtual, like building bonds of trust and friendship in the people we serve in Holy Cross ministries throughout the United States.

One thing I hope you take away from this issue of Vocation E-News is that religious life with the Congregation of Holy Cross will continually present you with new and unexpected opportunities to grow and expand your worldview.

The unique worldview of religious brothers is certain to be a topic at the first National Symposium on the Life of the Religious Brother to be held on Saturday, March 25, at the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, IN. You can register online HERE.  I look forward to seeing you there.
