Welcome to Our Vocation E-News–Issue X

Director of Vocations, Brothers of Holy CrossOne day, while out fishing, two young men are approached by Jesus who walks up to their boat and begins talking with them. He ends their conversation with, “Come. Follow me.” Immediately, the two men drop their nets, step out of their boat, and go. Their lives would never be the same.

I’ve often wondered, what did Jesus say to them? Why did they go off with him?

To follow Jesus is to take a radical risk to leave all behind for something more. That “more” is passion and purpose and, above all, love and joy.

Jesus invites all of us to leave our comfort zones. Exploring your calling in life leads you to places and experiences you never would have had if you hadn’t taken the chance. As Bilbo Baggins tells Frodo in The Lord of the Rings, “It’s a dangerous business going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.”

The people you will read about in this edition of our Vocation E-news all set off on an adventure. One of them, Sr. Carolyn Martin, LSP, went for a ride in her little red convertible with her friend Celia – and ended up becoming a religious sister! And, as she says, “I’ve never regretted saying yes to God’s beautiful plan for my life.”

Take a risk … drop your net and step out of your boat … and keep reading and listening for God’s voice in your own life.

Blessings on your journey!

Bro. Jonathan
